The General Conference is where representatives of IARU Region 1 member organizations discuss matters concerning the operation of amateur radio and develop decisions and recommendations for the coming years. At the participation registration stage, there were 97 delegates representing 39 member organizations.
The current list of participants also includes a delegation from the Polish Amateur Radio Union. Its chair is Krzysztof SP5E, while the following individuals have been registered as PZK delegates: Tomasz SP5CCC, Michał SP2J and Tomasz SQ6QV.
The first plenary session will begin on Saturday 19 September at 10:30. In the following days, committees dealing with, among other matters, the finances and organizational affairs of IARU Region 1, the HF bands HF, and VHF and higher bands, electromagnetic compatibility EMC and activities aimed at young radio amateurs will meet.
The program also includes topics related to amateur radio space projects ARSPEX, satellites, emergency communications, and cooperation with administrations and institutions responsible for frequency regulation. The documents prepared for the conference have already been published by IARU Region 1 and divided according to the respective committees.
A special highlight of the program will be 21 September, when conference participants will take part in celebrations marking the OeVSV centenary. The anniversary of the Austrian amateur radio organization has been incorporated directly into the official conference agenda.
On the final day, 23 September, the closing plenary session will be held. It will include approval of the committee reports, elections of chairs, and a presentation of the venue for the next General Conference. A formal dinner and awards ceremony are also planned for the evening.
The Vienna conference will therefore address both the current organization of IARU Region 1 and issues directly affecting the future of amateur radio—band usage, electromagnetic compatibility, new technologies, satellites, emergency communications, and work with young operators.
