The training will focus on preparing radio amateurs for this year's Great ShakeOut – an international earthquake response exercise. Presenters will include Oliver Dully K6OLI from LAXNORTHEAST ARES and Bob Tykulsker KM6SO from Emcomm Training Organization. Participants will learn, among other things, how to submit the USGS „Did You Feel It?”survey, a preparedness survey, and an emergency readiness quiz.
This year's amateur-radio portion of ShakeOut will take place from October 10–19. Operators will be able to submit reports using either a conventional connection to the Winlink network or complete some tasks using an option intended for stations without current Internet access.
One of the most interesting aspects of the exercise is cooperation with U.S. Geological Survey. Correctly prepared DYFI reports submitted by radio amateurs may be entered into the USGS system as exercise data. The organizers emphasize that the event is also open to operators outside the United States.
The presentation is scheduled for September 23 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time. According to the organizer, this corresponds to 01:00 UTC.
