From 18–20 September 2026 a special station will be on the air TC8KHT, operating from the archaeological site Karahantepe in Şanlıurfa Province, southeastern Türkiye. The station’s location is in the square KM97PC. Operation is planned on bands from 80 to 10 metres using CW, SSB, FT8 and FT4, as well as contacts via the geostationary satellite QO-100. QSOs are to be confirmed via eQSL and QRZ Logbook. The information was provided by the Polish Amateur Radio Union in an announcement published on 17 September.

The activity site is exceptional. Karahantepe is part of the Neolithic site complex Taş Tepeler in southeastern Türkiye. The official GoTürkiye website states that the site was discovered in 1997 and that regular excavations began in 2019. The area covers approximately 140,000 m², and more than 250 T-shaped stone megaliths.

The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism states that research at Karahantepe provides information about one of the earliest stages of the Neolithic in this region. In official materials, the site is described as part of an area where, around 12,000 years ago, changes associated with the transition from hunter-gatherer communities to a more settled way of life took place.

Combining such a location with amateur radio means that TC8KHT it will be an unusual special activity – modern radio communication will be present for several days at a place associated with some of the oldest known traces of settled communities in the Şanlıurfa region.
