High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) in Gakona, Alaska, conducted a special radio transmission on September 11, 2026, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the United States. The Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks published an event summary on September September 15.

The transmission began at 4:30 p.m. Alaska time and lasted five minutes. HAARP directed the beam toward New York City and Washington, D.C.. An SSTV image depicting nighttime Manhattan and two beams of light at the site of the former World Trade Center towers was transmitted.

ARRL had previously reported that the transmission was scheduled for a frequency of 9.11 MHz, and HAARP used the amateur callsign KL7ERP. The sequence included a QST message in Morse code, an SSTV image, and a final „73” CW transmission.

A special element of the event was dedicating the transmission to the American amateur-radio community. The Geophysical Institute thereby recalled the assistance provided by radio amateurs in the days and weeks following the September 11, 2001, attacks, when they supported volunteer organizations operating in areas affected by the tragedy.
