Australian Spring VHF-UHF Field Day 2026, held on September 19 and 20, produced an interesting result on one of the highest-frequency bands used by radio amateurs. Operators from the Brisbane VHF Group working under the club callsign VK4IF/p from Mount Mowbullan established contact with the station VK2SRC/p located on Mount Girard.
The 236-kilometre route was covered using the 24 GHz. The first contact was made using the digital mode Q65, which is intended, among other things, for working with very weak signals. The operators then managed to repeat the contact in SSB, obtaining 5/1 reports in both directions.
The station VK4IF/p on Mount Mowbullan was operated by Kevin VK4UH and Colin VK4UV. Brisbane VHF Group reports that the result achieved could represent as many as four state records, as well as personal records for the operators involved. However, final confirmation of the record categories will have to wait.
The Spring VHF-UHF Field Day is organized by the Wireless Institute of Australia. The contest uses VHF, UHF, and microwave bands, with scoring based on the distance between stations calculated from six-character Maidenhead locators.
