The organiser has prepared seven categories covering a wide range of amateur radio construction areas: projects for beginners, build quality, Outreach, Reimagination, innovation, software and antennas. RSGB emphasises that both hardware and software solutions can be entered in the competition.
The Reimagination category also accepts radio-related projects that do not require an amateur radio licence to build and operate. The organiser cites solutions using new modulation techniques, such as LoRa, as examples.
To enter, participants must submit a brief project description and up to four photographs. They may also include a link to a video showing the project in operation. Entries must be submitted by 1 March 2027.
The winner of each category will receive £150, while the runner-up will receive £50. The creator of the best overall project will additionally receive the Pat Hawker G3VA Award and a £200 prize. Special recognition will also be awarded to amateur radio operators aged 25 or under and to those who have recently obtained a UK Foundation licence. The results will be announced at the RSGB’s annual meeting on 17 April 2027.
